Who is Leadership Eastside?

Leadership Eastside offers a leadership development experience grounded in the practical skills of Adaptive Leadership, Racial Equity, Systems Thinking, Thrival, Gracious Space and Emotional Intelligence. We co-create a more just and equitable Eastside by developing leaders who understand what makes a healthy community and equipping them with skills to manage adaptive challenges.

Our Mission

Leadership Eastside promotes connections, develops and enriches leaders, and is a catalyst for communities to address important issues and meet the challenges of a diverse and dynamic region.

Our purpose

Leadership Eastside convenes leadership for the greater good on the Eastside as an education leader. We inform, equip, and connect our community’s greatest assets – its leaders – to meet our community’s greatest needs.

 What is Adaptive Leadership?

Adaptive Leadership is a model that equips leaders with the skills to lead people through difficult, messy and complex challenges with a systems thinking approach. Addressing an adaptive challenge, by definition, often involves an honest examination of the current roles, norms, values and priorities, how they maintain the status quo and how they will need to evolve if equitable change is to happen.

The people affected by an issue should be involved in their solutions

Intentionally seeking out and purposefully including underrepresented voices and disrupting racial and other inequalities to discover solutions that benefit all people.

Nate Perea LE’15

"I apply the skills I learned from Leadership Eastside on a daily basis.  There are also dozens of poignant and make-or-break moments in my career, personal life and community engagements where my L.E. knowledge was the only reason I was able to thrive and persist.

Understanding the Principles of Adaptive Leadership changes you.  It changes you so that you can be the driver of meaningful change whenever, wherever and for whomever."

Land Acknowledgement

Leadership Eastside convenes leaders for the greater good of East King County, including the Indigenous people who live here. We live, work and gather on the lands of the Snoqualmie and Duwamish peoples, who are part of the larger Coast Salish peoples. We ask everyone to honor the Snoqualmie Tribe’s request to become involved in their Ancestral Lands Movement and treat the lands we walk on with respect; and the Duwamish Tribe’s request to remember them as the first people of Seattle and treat the land with gratitude. We encourage you to actively participate in activities and learnings recommended by the Native peoples who still live here today.
